This month’s Bake Box (see here for last month’s bake!) was a beautiful ‘Yay’ Birthday cake recipe. No birthdays are coming up for the Barries in September, but of course that didn’t stop me making it!
The box I received was slightly incomplete, as the recipe card was missing. When I got a PDF version sent to me, I noticed that there were a couple of errors in it – the amount of cream cheese in the ingredient list was different to the amount mentioned in the method. Using the pink pigment powder (which was amazing and gives such a vibrant colour!) was also not mentioned at all in the card. They aren’t big things but it just avoids confusion if the recipe is really robust!
My cake recipe was very quick to whip up, as was the frosting! I used some homemade (by a friend) raspberry jam to fill the cake and there was plenty of frosting to layer and cover the cakes. Having the custard powder gave a lovely tang to the frosting, and I’m so glad that I have some pink pigment left to use on further bakes!
And of course, I can’t not mention the ‘Yay’ cake topper (from Miss Cake) and bright sprinkles that adorned the cake!
Looking forward to next month’s bake!
