Our garden backs onto some woods, so the paths are often strewn with fir cones. I found some inspiration on Pinterest of how I could use them… and promptly started collecting a few every time I took the dog for a walk!
Here’s what you need:
Fir cones (I collected them then left them in a warm dry place to dry out for a good few weeks – hence why i’m posting this so early in case you want to hunt for your own and decorate in December!)
As well as fir cones, you need Mod Podge (or other clear drying varnishing glue), glitter, and paintbrushes. I also found some silver and gold glitter paint in The Works (I love that shop!)
It really is simple as this:
1. Laying down some newspaper to catch the glitter.
2. Painting a layer of glue/glitter paint onto the cones
3. Sprinkling the cones with glitter and leaving them to dry!
You could use your cones in a wreath display, tie to string for a natural tree decoration or pile in a funky glass vase with some fairy lights – it’s up to you!
