We have now lived in Inverness for almost 7 months. When we moved in we had a week to unpack and build tons of furniture before friends and family came to stay! After that… well we’ve had lots of good intentions that haven’t amounted to much. Just last week we managed to exert some effort putting up a mirror in our dining space which had been sitting on the floor since March, and I had some of my photos printed to insert into frames for one of the spare bedrooms.
Our living/dining room space is quite large, but split-level, so it’s been hard to decide whether to try and decorate the rooms in different styles. We’ve chosen to go with the Korona range of furniture throughout, and as the hinges and handles are black, we ended up going with darker lamps around the room, which compliment the dark sofas and cream walls.
Over the summer I realised that books often make a house more homely. Ours were stored inside a chest, so not on display. So I found a bookcase on gumtree (for £5 no less!) which was sturdy enough, but very badly painted, and definitely not in the right colour. After a few weeks sitting in the hallway, finally on Saturday a large can of matt black spray paint (£6.98 from Wickes) was used to simply cover the bookcase. Now our books are on display finally for the fraction of the price of a new bookcase, and we’ve managed to upcycle an unwanted bookcase too!
Next the walls – Mr B and I are on the hunt for a print/piece for the biggest wall in our living room, so I’ll keep you posted on what we find!
