Bad Girl Bakery is well known up here in the Scottish Highlands, for attending many of the local market and craft fairs held around the region. Jeni singlehandedly bakes the most amazingly flavoured and stylish layer cakes, cupcakes and traybakes, and now, her loyal followers don’t have to track her down at events for their cake fix, because she has opened her very own Bad Girl Bakery Café & Cake Shop!
Jeni kindly invited me along to her pre-opening ‘Thank-you” party for supporters to get a sneak peek at the new café (and to celebrate with some fizz and cake!)
I was really impressed at the little touches of decoration and signage that gave it a really personable feel. Talking to some locals, there was a strong feeling that the café was going to be great for the village, and it was clear to me that a lot of people both from near and far would be supporting this new venture in the community.
Bad Girl Bakery has collected her fair share of awards and finalist accolades, both locally at the Black Isle Show and also from national baking organisations. These are displayed with pride, showcasing just how good these cakes and bakes are!
Little touches included friendly signage for those working and needing to plug in, a blackboard wall for children to doodle on…
…and of course ALL the cake. How could we forget! Displayed in vintage haberdashery counters, it’s a great place if you want to come in and stay a while, or take away a box of treats. (The picture below shows only the amount that was baked for the party – when we visited again, the counter was absolutely heaving with even more goodies!)
Mr B and I came back at the end of the first week of opening to get our own Bad Girl Bakery fix. We only just got the last available table on arriving, the place was packed with folk enjoying their lunches, coffees and cakes.
The blackboard of lunch options had soup, sandwich and panini options, as well as ginormous selection of cakes, which actually rapidly depleted as we were eating our toasties which slightly worried us! But we needn’t have panicked as there was enough to choose from (although, our favourite layer cakes had long gone – I’ve a feeling you’d need to get to the café during the morning to get a slice of these!) If you’re in the area, or passing through – you won’t regret stopping by!
Bad Girl Bakery is open 7 days a week on Muir of Ord’s Great North Road. We’re genuinely big fans of Jenis’ lovely cakes and of her hard work to create a family friendly café, so were only too pleased to feature her new venture here.
