Continuing from yesterday’s post…
4. My husband. My husband is great. He makes me laugh all the time, is really supportive and appreciative of stuff that I manage to do for him (including making him cakes) and is always caring of me.
When we started going out I was aware from the very beginning that if things ended up in marriage then I would no doubt be ending up in Scotland. That was just over a year ago and although in some respects its been very hard leaving London there would be no one else that I would be able to move for. And moving here with him (with him being so chilled- virtually horizontal!) has actually been virtually stress free and we’ve been able to make our house a home with all of our wedding gifts that very kind and generous friends and family have given us.
5. Edinburgh. This is kinda linked to day trips and adventures. At heart I am very much a city girl and really loved so close to the city in London. I loved the scale of the buildings, the immediacy of everything being so close and the wonderful views that you could get from virtually any bridge, park or busy street. Moving to Fife I am obviously not so close to London now but I have found an excellent alternative in Scotland’s capital of Edinburgh. I first came to Edinburgh with friends to celebrate my 21st birthday nearly 6 years ago which was great. I hadn’t actually been since then spending any more than a few hours, so it’s been great to research museums and things to do in Edinburgh knowing that I’m only a 45 minute train ride away. I like that in Edinburgh you can walk round everywhere, there’s a really nice mix of ‘Old’ and ‘New’ Towns and there’s a definite chilled atmosphere to enjoy.
6. The promise of friends coming to visit. Over the winter we’ve already got visitors booked into visit ‘Chez Barrie’ and we’ve got lots of fun planned with all of them. It definitely makes a difference having people we know coming to visit and we’re looking forward to sharing our new lives and home with them.
What things have helped you settled into a new house/job/routine?
