We are off on our holidays this week. Quite a bit of travelling is involved:
- Driving 600+ miles to Essex (and a quick visit to friends in London)
- Flying 1400 miles to Lisbon
- Flying 1360 miles from Lisbon to Frankfurt Hahn
- Travelling 126 miles by bus/train to Neckargerach (via Heidelberg)
- Flying 430 miles from Frankfurt Hahn to Stansted
- Driving back 600 miles to Inverness
all in two weeks… phew! It makes me tired just thinking about it – however we will be spending time with friends and family, plus a few days city break in Lisbon. A highlight will be visiting the beach, and spending a whole week in sandals/flipflops. In Inverness, you don’t really get that opportunity!
There have been a few apps that have come in useful for us, so I thought I’d let you know about:
Tripit.com – a free app, which creates an itinerary for travellers. Once you’ve registered, send all your travel/accommodation/car rental confirmations to the Tripit address, which then by magic transfers all the details (including booking references, flight numbers and times) into an personalised itinerary accessible by the TripIt app. It includes googlemaps of the locations of hotels too! As someone who will print off endless maps/travel directions, I am now going paper-free for this holiday, and it feels quite liberating! I guess the only thing is that we will be relying on remembering to have adequate charge on our phones!
o2 Travel – again a free app (I’m assuming for everyone and not just o2 customers!) via which you can download TripAdvisor guides for European cities. The great thing about this little app is that the maps are downloaded onto your phone, which means you don’t have to tap into any 3G when you are trying to navigate round!
There’s also a great article here from Time Out detailing the 50 best travel apps.
Finally, I’m not one for outfit posts but here are a few holiday buys I’ve taken advantage of for our trip to Lisbon and Germany (we’re taking hand luggage and by the time the camera, travel guides and other bits and bobs have been added, we’re packing very light):
I go for comfort on holidays – so these lightweight print trousers will be perfect for dinners out in Lisbon, as well as some denim shorts.
Days at the beach call for a one-piece from M&S to relax in
We have a family party in Germany, so I’m glad I found this dress (though in a cornflower blue) in the Debenhams sale.
